Disposables Banned!
The ban is now in full force.
Disposables are now officially banned in the UK after the long anticipated ban came into full force just yesterday.
Although we can agree that the ban is a good move from the government in their attempts to crack down on youth vaping, the truth is that the future of vaping has never been more uncertain.
It goes without saying that this disposables ban is the perfect opportunity for the government to use the success of the ban to fuel support for harsher restrictions next year - we could very well be facing a reality that excludes all flavours save tobacco and menthol.
This is concerning not only because we at DarkStar understand how important a range of flavours is when using vaping as a smoking cessation tool. Is this a hint at things to come?
The media has been very quiet on the matter, yet the Tobacco & Vapes Bill has now completed its second reading in the House of Lords and has moved on to the Committee Stage. This means that only a few stages remain between this review period and the Bill coming into law.
Despite this significant progress, we haven’t heard much from the government at all on what that law will actually look like.
Will they go forward with the flavour ban? Will bright colours be banned from packaging? Will the predicted taxes be implemented? Are they still committed to the announced date of October 2026?
At this stage, it’s very unclear when all of this missing information will come to light, which begs the question - how late will we really find out what is happening when the bill comes in? Many of us will need to take steps to prepare; from securing our favourite flavours to learning to DIY your e-liquids, it’s clear that every vaper will need some forewarning.
