Kick the Nic!

Kick the Nic!

Whether you're looking to cut down or quit altogether, we’ve got your back — with tips, encouragement, and maybe a cheeky little flavour recommendation or two. 😉

Control over your nicotine intake

If you’ve made the switch from smoking to vaping — first of all, congrats! That’s a huge step. One of the best things about vaping (besides all the amazing flavours) is that you get to control your nicotine. Unlike cigarettes, where you’re stuck with whatever’s in that tobacco blend, vaping lets you choose how much (or little) nicotine you get in each puff.

Start Where You’re At

If you’ve recently stopped smoking, chances are you started on a vape juice with a higher nicotine level, like 12mg or even 18mg, especially if you were a heavy smoker. Totally normal. Your body’s used to that dose, and the goal here isn’t to shock your system — it’s to gradually give it less nicotine at a pace that works for you.

Step It Down Slowly

The key word here is gradually. Once you feel like your cravings have mellowed out a bit on your current level, try stepping down to a lower strength — maybe from 12mg to 10mg. Stay there for a couple of weeks, and see how you’re feeling.

Then maybe down to 8mg. Eventually, you might even try zero nicotine (yep, it’s a thing!).

And here’s the beauty of vaping: you can mix your own ratios. Let’s say you’re not quite ready to go from 6mg to 3mg cold turkey — no problem! And remember, if you need any help with mixing, we’re here for you.

We’ve got lots of options designed for every nic strength, from Short Fills to Bottle Shots to DIY concentrates - there’ll be something for you on our site.

Listen to Your Body (And Your Mood!)

Everyone’s different, and this isn’t a race. Some folks drop their nicotine super quickly, others take their time. If you’re feeling that your new level is too low, that’s just your body saying, “Hey, too soon!”

Bump back up a little and try again in a week or two. It’s all part of the process.

Bonus Tips

  • Try new flavours as you step down! Sometimes a flavour switch can distract your brain from the nicotine change. Think dessert vibes or cooling menthols - and trust us, we’ve got everything.

  • Change up your device. Lower strengths often pair better with higher-powered devices or sub-ohm setups. We’re always happy to give recommendations - check out our Facebook group, or drop us an email at info@darkstar.co.uk

Final Thoughts

At the end of the day, vaping isn’t just a smoking alternative — it’s a tool. A flexible, flavorful, pretty fun tool for helping you cut down on nicotine at your own pace. And we’re excited to be part of your journey!

Hi there —

Thank you for this thoughtful dive into quitting nicotine. It’s refreshing to see a post that brings both honesty and hope to the journey away from smoking and nicotine dependence.

At Vapeaah, we often speak with adult smokers who are seeking a safer pathway — and what you’ve outlined here resonates: the nicotine part is often smaller than the habit, the routine, and the mindset. Switching to a regulated vaping alternative (with gradual nicotine reduction) can help many adult smokers reclaim control from tobacco.

A few extra practical pointers from our UK-based experience:

Choosing refillable and regulated equipment helps minimise risk and provides more flexible nicotine stepping-down options.

Having a quit plan that includes reducing nicotine strength over time tends to lead to better long-term outcomes than simply switching and leaving it at the same level forever.

Support matters — peer forums, advice from UK stop-smoking services, and trusted retailers who provide honest guidance can make the difference.

Your article rightly points to the fact that quitting nicotine entirely is the ideal goal — and that’s where many of our conversations at Vapeaah eventually head. This post helps make that goal seem clearer and more real.

Thanks again for sharing this content — it’s too often the case that quitting is depicted as all or nothing. Your balanced approach helps adult smokers see meaningful steps.

Best wishes from everyone at Vapeaah.

Quit cigs in 2020, started vaping with 18mg,, now at 7mg and just about to drop to 6.5mg.
Yep, slowly but surely for me, and zero withdrawal symptoms!
Obviously I could have reduced faster with only mild withdrawals, but this is the route I’ve chosen and have no complaints.
