PG & VG Explained (2026 Update)
The Fundamentals of Any Flavour: PG and VG
Propylene Glycol and Vegetable Glycerine are in almost every vape product on the market. As simple as they are, choosing the right mix can feel confusing when it comes to mixing your own e-liquid, so here's everything you need to know.
Overview
Dilutants like PG & VG are used to bring the strength of concentrated flavour down to a level that's pleasant to vape. The ratio of these liquids in an e-liquid can vary the experience you have when vaping the final flavour.
Propylene Glycol
The thinner of the two; Propylene Glycol is a colourless (and virtually odourless) liquid. It has a very sweet taste in its raw form, which will be unnoticeable when mixed into a complete e-liquid.
Like many products in vaping, PG is a commonly used additive in the food industry, and carries flavour particularly well when used in an e-liquid. It also provides a stronger 'throat hit' which ex-smokers look for to replace the experience of smoking traditional cigarettes.
PG is the dilutant to use if you're looking for:
- Clearer, more intense flavour
- Stronger 'throat hit' when inhaling
- Reduced gunk build-up in your device
- Better wicking in smaller coils and pod systems
Vegetable Glycerine
PG's thicker cousin, Vegetable Glycerine is a natural plant oil that, when vapourised, converts into dense, chunky clouds. VG is also a common ingredient in the food industry with virtually zero smell, taste, or colour that'll make it through to your final flavour.
VG is the dilutant to use if you're looking for:
- Increased cloud production during exhale
- A smoother, softer throat hit
- An entirely natural composition
Our Quality Commitment
Not all VG and PG are created equal. We source our Vegetable Glycerine directly from Europe's leading refinery. Certified at 99.7%+ purity, though in practice it consistently tests in excess of 99.9%. This pharmaceutical grade quality delivers unrivalled clarity and odourlessness, allowing your flavour concentrates to shine without any interference from the base.
It costs us more, but you'll taste the difference.
Which Ratio Should You Use?
The 70/30 rule: This is the standard mix: Good clouds, solid flavour, smooth enough for all-day vaping. If you've bought ready-mixed e-liquid before, it's probably this ratio.
Important: 70/30 is ideal for sub-ohm tanks and RDAs. If you're using a pod system or MTL device, start with 50/50 instead as high VG can struggle to wick in smaller coils.
PG Sensitivity
Some vapers experience throat irritation from PG; dryness, excessive throat hit, or irritation even at low nicotine. If this sounds familiar, try 80/20 or max VG. Many people who think they "can't vape" are simply PG sensitive.
Quick Troubleshooting
- Dry hits? Liquid too thick? Try more PG or 50/50
- Flooding/leaking? Liquid too thin? Try more VG
In Summary
Up the PG for more flavour and throat hit, or max out the VG for clouds and smoothness. We offer ready made Base Mix for an even balance, or pick up pure VG and PG to mix your own perfect ratio.
