What Are Nic Salts?
As you probably know, the vaping industry is always evolving. With new and exciting ways to vape hitting the market regularly, it can be difficult to keep up with all the new products on the market and how they will affect your vaping experience.
You may have seen the term ‘nicotine salts’ or ‘nic salts’ thrown around a lot lately. In the past few years, the popularity of salt e-liquid has skyrocketed.
They appear in your local vape shop and on your favourite online vendors website, so how can they affect the way that you vape?
Not to worry, we’ve put together this short blog to tell you everything you need to know about nic salts.
What's the difference between freebase and salt?
Salt nic shots are essentially the same as others that you would find on the shelves of your local shop; the true difference is the nicotine itself.
Standard e-liquid contains a distilled form of nicotine, which is extracted directly from tobacco (freebase nicotine). Salt nicotine, on the other hand, contains salicylic acid, which reduces the PH level and alkalinity.
This means that the nicotine is absorbed faster into the bloodstream. Salicylic acid is primarily used as a food preservative and there have been no reports to say that vaping this is any more harmful or addictive than standard freebase nicotine.
Why use nic salts?
Nic salts are ideal for anyone looking for a stronger and longer lasting nicotine hit. The reduced PH level also means that you get a smoother throat hit and offers better nicotine absorption than traditional e-liquids.
Some recipes work better with salts too - we always recommend using salts with our Pod Fog range, for example.
This also makes the nicotine in your e-liquid work in a more similar way to a cigarette, which is key if you are a transitioning smoker.
Another benefit for nic salt consumers may be cost savings, as highly concentrated e-liquids allows for hardware with a smaller e-liquid reservoir and less vapour needed to produce the nicotine levels required.
How do I use them?
For most Nic Salt e-liquid, a simple pod device will suffice. As most 10ml liquids with Nic Salts have an 18 – 20mg nicotine content, a sub ohm device that produces a large amount of vapour will result in a level of nicotine too high to vape. If you would like to sub ohm Nic Salts, we would recommend buying 18 – 20mg unflavoured shots and adding these to Shortfills or Bottle Shots for a more comfortable vaping experience.
