Vaping Etiquette Do's and Don'ts
Vaping is well and truly on the rise as a great way to give up smoking. It doesn’t produce smoke or nasty smells but that doesn’t mean that anything goes when it comes to vaping in public. If you are passionate about vaping you must also take into account the concerns of those around you.
As vaping is still fairly new, a lot of the rules regarding where you can or can’t vape are still unspoken. If you are in doubt about the social etiquette do’s and dont's of vaping, check out our list below!
Don’t – Vape near children or pets
This might be a no brainer for some but it’s still worth mentioning. As is generally the rule for smoking, it’s just good practice to avoid vaping around your child or pet. Although there isn’t much evidence that second hand vaping can cause any health problems, the nicotine in e-liquid is a poisonous chemical and can be dangerous if ingested.
Don’t – Judge smokers
Remember, if you’re a vaper, you were probably a smoker once. Some people haven’t made the step to vaping yet or have tried it and didn’t like it. Quitting smoking is a tough process and although you might have strong opinions about the advantages of vaping over smoking, some people just don’t want to hear it.
Don’t – Vape in close proximity with other people
You might think that your new flavour is the sweetest smelling one going, or you may love blowing huge clouds, but a lot of people don’t enjoy it or simply don’t understand vaping or the risks passive vaping may or may not cause.
Don’t – Vape somewhere that doesn’t allow it
It’s sometimes hard to tell where you are allowed to vape but a good rule to remember is if you wouldn’t smoke there, you probably shouldn’t vape there either, although there are some exceptions. Some bars and nightclubs still allow vaping but public places such as cinemas, restaurants, train stations and public transport do not. If you’re not sure, the best thing to do is ask!
Do – Educate non vapers if they ask you questions
As mentioned before, not everyone understands vaping. As a vaper, it is good to educate people on the differences between e-cigarettes and traditional cigarettes, especially the health benefits to giving up cigarettes and switching to vaping. Remember not to be sanctimonious or rude about this as everybody has the right to form their own opinions.
Do – Ask for permission
With the laws around vaping changing regularly, it is important to make sure you are allowed to vape in any establishment. The same goes for the homes of your friends and family. You might vape to your heart's content in your own home but other people are not always comfortable with it.
